Adidas Metalbone CTRL 2026 is a control racket with a lively edge. It does a lot of things well, but it does not feel passive or sleepy in the hand. I see it as a round-format option for advanced players who want a big sweet spot, easy access to ball output, and enough punch to finish points without turning the racket into a pure power frame.
What stands out most is how approachable it feels for a racket in this line. It keeps the Metalbone identity, but it is calmer and less demanding than the stiffest versions. That makes it easier to trust over a long match, especially if you value placement, defense, and clean bandeja work more than brute force.
Technical analysis
Shape & balance
The Round shape is doing the heavy lifting here. It gives the racket a generous sweet spot and a very forgiving response on off-center contact, which I felt immediately in both defense and quick exchanges. The balance sits in a sensible place for a control-first racket, so it does not drag the head around too much.
That said, I would not call it ultra-light on court. There is enough presence in the head to give depth to the ball, but the frame never becomes unwieldy. The result is a racket that feels stable without getting slow, though players with smaller hands may still notice the longer handle more than they’d like.
Materials & construction
Adidas pairs a carbon frame with Carbon Aluminized 16K faces and an EVA Soft Performance core. That combination explains the racket’s medium feel and the very clean rebound. The faces give it a crisp enough response, while the core softens contact just enough to keep it comfortable.
I also think the construction helps the racket stay usable in a wide range of situations. It is not a dead control racket that forces you to work for every meter, and it is not a stiff cannon either. The ball comes off with good speed, but the response is a little more elastic than aggressive hitters may expect.
On-court feel
Baseline play
From the baseline, this racket is easy to live with. Blocks come out with a lot of security, and defensive lobs carry well without feeling forced. In off-the-wall play, the large sweet spot gives you margin when the timing is not perfect.
I did notice that it can feel a touch lively in medium-paced exchanges. That is not a disaster, but it means the racket asks for a clean hand if you want absolute calm on every ball. It rewards good preparation more than lazy strokes.
At the net
At the net, the Metalbone CTRL 2026 is solid rather than explosive. Volleys have good ball exit and enough bite to keep pressure on, but they do not feel as locked-in as the best net-oriented control rackets I’ve used. A few players with similar feedback mentioned that the volley response can feel a bit awkward at first, and I can see why.
Still, the racket is easy to accelerate through contact. That makes chiquita returns, soft hands at the net, and quick exchanges comfortable enough. It is not a racket that fights you.
Bandeja and víbora
This is probably the most convincing area for me. The combination of touch and rebound makes the bandeja simple to repeat with depth, and the víbora comes out with decent bite without needing a huge swing. I trust it more here than on flat attacking volleys.
It does not turn every overhead into a weapon, though. If you want maximum brutality on every high ball, this is not that racket. It gives you control, shape, and usable pace. Nothing more theatrical than that.
Conclusion
I’d take this if I wanted a control racket that still gives me a bit of life in attack. It suits advanced players who build points, work the net with patience, and want a big margin on defense without sacrificing too much offensive reply.
What you trade off is pure power and that ultra-surgical, locked-in net feeling some stiffer rackets provide. The long handle can also feel a little clunky if your hands are on the smaller side.
For me, that is the real story here: a very complete control racket, but one with a slightly active personality. It helps a lot when the point gets messy. It just doesn’t do all the work for you.
What other reviewers say
- PadelCriticen
The review frames it as a highly complete control racket for advanced players: the generous sweet spot and balance system make it easy to manage while still keeping accuracy high. It is not built to win by raw power, but to deliver surgical placement and a comfortable response.
- Racket Centralen
It is described as a more approachable control racket than the stiffer Metalbone options, with a comfortable feel and a response that is easier to trust over long matches. Its main appeal is blending control, touch, and maneuverability with usable power, even if it is not designed for maximum smash speed.
- r/Padelracketen
One player describes it as a racket with an excellent control-power blend, but says volleys feel a bit off and the long handle can be clunky if you have smaller hands. Overall the impression is positive, but the ergonomics do not suit everyone.
- r/Padelracketen
Compared with another light racket, this user found it less controllable and a bit more wild in medium-paced play. That suggests it may provide more pop or liveliness, but not the same easy-to-manage feel as calmer alternatives.
